This is a 6-Unit on-line course which can be completed in 12 weeks. However, because on-line studies are intended to make life easier for busy people, there is no pressure on our part to keep you to a tight timescale. Provided we are kept informed, students are welcome to take a break in the studies at any time they wish – provided all the theory for each course is completed within one year.
When the Units have been successfully completed, a Theory-only Diploma is automatically awarded, very often this is With Distinction when the standard of work has been especially high. In recent months, the With Distinction clause seems to be happening more and more frequently.
We are now pleased to welcome an increasing number of students from abroad. The Theory-only Diploma is proving quite useful in establishing to present or future employers that the candidate now has additional qualifications to 'work with dance and movement as therapy for children in difficult circumstances' under supervision in the workplace. As our students all know, our focus for 2012 is on children in need of extra support and artistic opportunities to help them develop their talent and gain added confidence. Of course there are other advantages too for the children, which are explained in the course material. There has never been a greater need for this expertise.
Many students say they would like to aim for a Full Diploma, which involves a one-to-one meeting with an examiner to explain in a professional way the method they have been developing during the course and their plans for the future development of that method. Our late examiner had recently expressed her belief that proof should be required of a candidate's practical abilities too, so a way has now been devised to help students to make a start, working with small groups of children.
On completion of the Working with Dance and Movement Foundation programme with its Theory-only diploma, there is now a follow-on course, Sharing Dance with Others. This includes all the information needed by most students to begin to 'set up and run an after-school learn-to-dance club.' Some may find this relatively easy to arrange, for others it is perhaps not quite so easy. But with the course material to help you and on-going guidance from the School's one-to-one tutors, the twelve weeks' experience needed for a Full Diploma should present no obstacles even to the most faint-hearted!
